God has given us a versatile joint known as Hip joint. It is a ball and socket joint wherein ball articulates with the socket of the hip. Here the head of the femur is being referred as ball and acetabulum of the hip is being referred as socket of the hip. It is a very stable joint of the body as the head is deeply located in the socket and is surrounded by strong ligaments and muscle. The joint is versatile because a wide range of motion can be performed in almost all the directions. This range of motion is essential for all the sports activities which includes gymnasts, various yogic postures involving padmasana, squatting on toes and sitting cross leg for performing prayers.
Hip preservation is a way to prevent or delay the onset of osteoarthritis or other degenerative conditions affecting the joints, particularly in young patients. Dr. Magu offers a wide spectrum of Hip Preservation Surgery, as a reliable alternative to Total Hip Replacement for young and middle aged active patients. Hip Preservation allows patients to retain their natural hip, improve motion of the joint, eliminate pain and in turn help in preventing a partial or Total Hip Replacement.
When the hip is diseased an effort should be made to preserve the hip and not to sacrifice it. By excising the hip, it becomes unstable and patient walks with a short limb and an unstable gait. Excising the head of the femur and replacing it with an artificial joint is no solution to achieve a painless mobile stable hip. It never behaves as the patients own God given natural hip joint. Patient cannot squat on toes and sit crossed legged, cannot perform gymnastics and other sports activities. All such functions can only be achieved by preserving the patient's own viable femoral head (Hip Joint).
